Here at Orbe’s, we ONLY raise grass-fed and grass finished cattle. This is how cattle have been raised for thousands of years. It’s how their bodies are meant to process food. It is only as early as a couple hundred years ago that grain was added to cattle feed. We raise a rare heritage breed called the American Milking Devon. It is a triple purpose animal that thrives on pasture (no grain). We also care about treating soil well because that is what feeds the plants that feed the animals that feed us. It is a direct line. Together we help raise awareness and bring important “old fashioned” values of cattle health and environmental health to the modern farm.
You may have watched our BIG BARN time lapse on You Tube. That barn has more purpose than housing animals. First, it takes the animals off the ground in the winter, so they don’t make mud out of the delicate soil structure. Secondly, it transforms cow poop into a nutrient dense substrate that is amazing for growing the garden.
Nothing is wasted here on the farm. We want to make farming sustainable again, if only in our corner of the world. Supporting us helps local economy, the planet, the cows, and most importantly you and your family!
